    Returns & Refunds

The Buyer may return the dog to the Seller at any point during the dog’s life. If the Buyer can no longer keep the dog, the Seller will either accept the dog back directly or assist with placing the dog in a suitable, approved home (including a next of kin, if applicable). However, refund eligibility is limited.

Refunds (Must Be Scheduled Within 7 Days)

The Buyer may receive a refund of the purchase price (excluding deposit) if a veterinary exam is completed within seven (7) days of receiving the puppy, proof is provided to the Seller, and a return date is scheduled within the 7-day window. The return can occur after seven days as long as the schedule was set within the window. Without a vet exam or scheduled return, the Seller may still accept the dog, but no refund will be provided.

    After 7 Days

No refunds will be issued after the 7-day window. If a genetic or hereditary condition is diagnosed within six (6) months and insurance was maintained, the Buyer may request a replacement puppy or up to $300 reimbursement for uncovered veterinary costs.

    Rehoming Restrictions

The Buyer may not rehome, sell, or transfer the dog without the Seller’s written consent. A next of kin may be nominated, but all placements require Seller approval.

    Next of Kin Transfer
Any next of kin or designated person taking over ownership must enter into a formal written agreement with the Seller before assuming ownership. This ensures all contractual terms, including spay/neuter, care standards, and non-breeding agreements, continue to apply to the new owner.

    Health Guarantee

    Buyer Responsibilities

The Buyer agrees to a vet exam within seven (7) days of receipt and to notify the Seller of health concerns within 48 hours. The Buyer must activate the included 30-day temporary insurance within 24 hours and maintain active coverage. If a genetic or hereditary condition is diagnosed within six (6) months, the Buyer may seek reimbursement (up to $300) or a replacement puppy. Failure to maintain insurance may void reimbursement rights.

    Seller Responsibilities

The Seller guarantees the puppy is healthy at transfer, with age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming. This guarantee excludes non-genetic issues, treatable conditions like parasites, or conditions arising from neglect.

    Care Standards & Ongoing Responsibilities

The Buyer agrees to provide a safe, stable home, fresh water, balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and veterinary care, using only force-free, non-punitive training.

    Crate Use and Confinement

Puppies should not be confined longer than appropriate for their age; adult dogs should not be crated more than 4–6 hours regularly. Crates must never replace engagement or be used as punishment.

     Microchip & Communication Agreement

The Buyer agrees to microchip the dog within 30 days (unless delayed by a veterinarian), with the Buyer as primary contact and the Seller as secondary. Both parties agree to maintain respectful communication, provide one annual update, and respond within 72 hours to reasonable inquiries.

    Breeding & Reproductive Terms

This dog is sold as a companion animal only and is not to be used for breeding.

    Spay/Neuter Requirements

The Buyer agrees to sterilize the dog by age two unless medically delayed. If the Buyer fails to comply, the Seller may request temporary surrender to complete the procedure. Afterward, the Buyer may resume ownership by reimbursing care costs or may transfer ownership to the Seller.

Unauthorized Breeding (Female Owned by Buyer)

If unauthorized breeding occurs, the Buyer agrees to surrender puppies at 8 weeks and pay $1,000 per puppy in liquidated damages, reflecting the Seller’s time, costs, and ethical responsibility. The female must be spayed post-weaning. The Seller aims to work with the Buyer to keep the mother in her home if terms are met.

Unauthorized Stud Use (Female Not Owned by Buyer)

If the dog sires a litter, the Buyer must notify the Seller, provide contact details, and pay $1,000 per resulting puppy. The Seller may offer placement support. The dog must be neutered immediately or temporarily surrendered for the procedure, with the option to resume ownership.

    Failure to Disclose

Failure to disclose a litter is a material breach. The Seller may seek return of the dog, additional damages, or require immediate sterilization at the Buyer’s expense. These measures ensure puppies are ethically placed and cared for.

    Ownership Enforcement

Violations such as unauthorized breeding, failure to sterilize, or unapproved rehoming may result in legal pursuit of the dog’s return, reimbursement of costs, or recovery of legal fees if the Seller prevails. This contract is governed by California law, with jurisdiction in Monterey County.

    Entire Agreement & Dispute Resolution

This document is the full agreement. No other promises are binding unless written and signed by both parties. Disputes must first attempt informal resolution, followed by mediation or arbitration in Monterey County, California.

    Acknowledgement

By signing below, both parties confirm they have read, understood, and agree to the contract terms and enter this agreement in good faith with the dog’s welfare as the top priority.

Little Puppies the Long Way has Puppies Available for Adoption!

At Little Puppies the Long Way, we are committed to ensuring our puppies go to loving, responsible homes. We currently have puppies available for adoption, as well as a waitlist for upcoming litters.

Adopting an Available Puppy

For families interested in puppies that are currently available, the process is as follows:

  1. Application & Video Call: All interested parties must complete an application form for their chosen puppy. After reviewing your application, we will contact you for a follow-up video interview. This interview allows us to assess your home environment and gives you the opportunity to meet the puppies and ask any additional questions.

  2. Reserve Your Puppy: If selected, we require a $500 deposit and a signed contract to officially reserve your puppy. Once the deposit is received, your puppy will be marked as "reserved." The remaining balance is due either in advance or at the time of pickup. We accept debit and credit card payments, and payment plans may be offered at our discretion. Taxes are included in the listed price—no additional fees beyond the advertised amount.

  3. Regular Updates: Once your puppy is reserved, you will receive regular updates on their progress until the designated pickup date. We encourage all of our adoptive families to stay in touch, ask for advice, and prepare for their new puppy’s arrival.

Joining the Waitlist

For families interested in future litters, we offer the option to join our waitlist. Here’s how it works:

  1. Application & Video Call: Just like with adopting an available puppy, all interested parties must complete an application form and have a video interview to ensure a good fit for the puppy and your home.

  2. Waitlist Process: Families on the waitlist will be contacted after the puppies begin their training at 8 weeks old. At this point, we will assess the puppies’ personalities and match them to the families on the waitlist, ensuring a good fit.

  3. Reserve Your Puppy: If you are contacted from the waitlist, you will have 24 hours to set up a call with your potential puppy and place a $500 deposit to officially reserve your puppy. Once the deposit is received, your puppy will be marked as "reserved."

  4. Regular Updates: Families on the waitlist will also receive regular updates on the puppies’ training progress until their new puppy is ready for pickup.
